About
The J Haus

Built in 1913 for Roy McKee, manager of the Sioux City Blau Gas Company. This 3400 square ft home with 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms stands at the corner of 27th and Jackson Street. Originally, built in the Prairie Style, along with other architectural details folded in. The house was deemed to be demolished in the early 2000’s, but was bought by a family who lovingly started the restoration process, which continued over many years. Come see for yourself the beauty of this old home.

About us

Hi! We are the Althaus family. In 2018 we moved home to Sioux City after being away for 15 years for school and training. We had been looking for older homes on the North-Central side of Sioux City, in particular Jackson Street, for a possible space to launch my baking business, The Black Box Bakery, LLC.

In 2020 we purchased this home at 2620 Jackson. We immediately envisioned a unique event location, allowing small gatherings to enjoy a comfortable and cozy space. This home now serves two purposes, the location of The Black Box Bakery, LLC and The J Haus venue. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
